Red Hat® Insights continuously analyzes platforms and applications to predict risk, recommend actions, and track costs so enterprises can better manage hybrid cloud environments. Insights is included with almost every subscription to Red Hat Enterprise Linux®, Red Hat OpenShift®, and Red Hat Ansible® Automation Platform.

Red Hat Insights is enabled for Red Hat solutions on Google Cloud. This document explains how you can activate Red Hat Insights. Download this brief to discover more about how your organization can save time and effort with Red Hat Insights.

Prerequisite: you have to consume Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Google Cloud.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux images on Google Cloud have, by default, Red Hat Insights agent installed, so there is no need to do it manually.

Step 1: Create a Red Hat account if you don’t have one yet.

Step 2: Login into the Red Hat Enterprise Linux VM (using SSH)

Step 3: Red Hat Enterprise Linux PAYG on GCP is managed by RHUI without a RH credential, basic authentication is needed for this scenario.

You need to have the following:

You have a Red Hat SSO username and SSO password that can be stored in clear text.

You have read/write permissions in the directory /etc/insights-client/in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux host.

Procedure:

Use a text editor to open the file /etc/insights-client/insights-client.conf

Change auto_config=TRUE value to auto_config=FALSE.

Replace <your customer portal username> with a Red Hat SSO username.

Replace <your customer portal password> with a Red Hat SSO password.

Save the configuration and exit the editor.

Step 4: Test that you have a valid connection between the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server and the Red Hat Insights hosted service on console.redhat.com using the following command:

# sudo insights-client --test-connection

Step 5: Register the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server to the insight service using the following command:

# sudo insights-client --register

Step 6: Login to console.redhat.com using your Red Hat account

Step 7: Go to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux dashboard where you will find an overview of your Red Hat Enterprise Linux server(s) including Advisor recommendations, Vulnerability, CVEs, Recommendations and Remediations
