What inspired you to be a developer?

The need to create. I realized that the only way to change history is to create something.

Why did you choose OpenShift as your hosting platform?

It's easy do deploy, there is a possibility to host apps for free. The app was up and running within minutes. It took me a total of less than a day to create the website.

What advantages does OpenShift give you that other platforms don't?

I tend to come up with new ideas every now and then and it would be very expensive to host them on dedicated or rented hardware. OpenShift provides a platform on which I can deploy the apps, see if they get popular, and if they do upgrade to a better plan.

Tell us more about your application currently hosted on OpenShift:
  • Name: Quiet Vibes
  • What does it do? I would categorize the website as art, targeted towards an audience that would like to experience a sense of presence within various places around the world through sounds right in their office or the living room. We're publishing a stereo recording on sound cloud, while still providing a download URL for the ac3 file for a 5.1 life-like experience.
  • What technologies were used to create your app? Wordpress 4 running on PHP 5.4 with MySQL 5.5
  • What motivated you to create this application and what problems does it solve? Many people can not afford to travel. I was thinking how could I reproduce the atmosphere of a city, village, or natural sight so that anyone would be able to experience the virtual presence. My first step is publishing surround sound ambient noise recordings and a picture of that place, but ultimately I would like to find sponsorship to create an exhibition in an art gallery in which there would be spheres with panoramic picture of the place printed on the walls with the ambient noise recordings being played in surround sound. This would create an impression of actually being there. Imagine going into a gallery, entering a sphere and "teleporting" to Tokyo, the moment after, you go into another sphere, and you find yourself in Paris. Tired of cities, take another step and go into a Sphere that takes you to Niagara Waterfalls, need some silence? No problem - a few more steps into another sphere and you'll be placed in a tiny village deep down in Himalayas. This is an art project, and the primary problem I am trying to solve here - is enable people to "teleport" into various places around the world, to be able to experience things they otherwise never would.
