Application currently hosted on OpenShift:The Grid
Technologies used: C#, low level FS layer drivers (Dokan), FB Open Graph API
What's it do?
“The Grid” is an application that creates a virtual disk, that you can browse using Windows Explorer, in order to see not only your Facebook photo’s and albums but also your friend’s photos and albums.
What motivated you to create the application?
This application borned during a programming contest - Codebits - held in Portugal. The idea was to easily show that having sufficient large bandwidth, such as the one provided by fiber, and lots of contents in the cloud... from now on it is possible to browse those contents in real time and even do some processing on them. This is all transparent to the user and shows what you can do when you have high speed networks and evergrowing cloud dispersed contents. Information is not lost in the cloud; information is always available, it can be correlated and easily shown in realtime.
What are the most compelling features of OpenShift?
It's very easy to use. The idea of having multiple PaaS is great and the idea of application cartdriges is also great; there is no need to bother with some low-level details.
What are some features you'd like to see in OpenShift?
On-demand backups, exportable. Possibility to restore those backups easily, like snapshots.
