Ruby
I was inspired to learn how software works by being introduced to the internet in the 90s. Thinking on that I don’t know how I got so far with about every web page in production looking like it was each “webmaster’s” first crack at learning HTML.
I purged myself of any operating system not Linux. My first install was Red Hat. I taught myself HTML and then CSS, PHP, and SQL.
I switch between machines that run Linux or OS X. The product suite I use the most is created by the team at Jet Brains. This champion of IDEs has been one of the best tools in my arsenal. Though there is a slight learning curve, like any extensive tool, the benefits are exemplary.
Most of my development for work or otherwise is done with Ruby. I prefer the Ruby on Rails framework, on a Linux server, connected to a Postgres database.
Ease of use
Some of the most important assets to launching an application online is minimizing my time and worry. With OpenShift I am granted both of these, and even more, invaluable benefits.
Would like to see more third party application plug-ins
