Welcome to the OpenShift Developer Spotlight where we get to know the members of the OpenShift community a little better and show off their skills as developers.

What is your primary Development Language?
Java
What inspired you to be a developer?
I started to be developer since I was ~15. What inspired me 19 years
ago is the same that still inspires me nowadays: The ability to create
and build up something, the ability to covert ideas into something
that you can really see and the ability to solve problems.
What programming language did you learn first?
If I remember correctly, this was Turbo Pascal back in 1995 or so --
followed by some C, the typical LAMP stack and Java later on.
What tools do you use the most often for development? (Operating system, IDE, etc)
Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), NetBeans, Chrome, AndroidStudio, Git, Jenkins
Why did you choose OpenShift as your hosting platform?
- Very easy deployment.
- Almost no maintenance.
- Very easy setup.
- Preconfigured project at startup.
What advantages does OpenShift give you that other hosting platforms don't?
OpenShift provides a very easy to use setup and deployment system
which makes it extremely easy to quick start a project.
What are some features you'd like to see in OpenShift?
A bit more HDD Space at startup for free (or having a base mongo not in the quota): A simple MongoDB, JEE installation + Repo uses almost 1GB of space.
Tell us more about your application currently hosted on openshift:
- Name: Signal Coverage
- What does it do? The primary aim of Signal Coverage is to detect spots with very weak or no signal (dead spots) in mobile networks.
Other services provide data for the network coverage and cell towers but none provide data about where is no coverage. - If you don't care if you have signal but care a lot if you have no signal - then this is the place for you. - What technologies were used to create your app? MongoDB, Tomcat
- What motivated you to create this application and what problems does it solve? There are various services that detect the signal strength IF there is signal - yet there are almost no services that also tell the difference between no signal and no measurement.
This project was started due to the lack of OpenData in this area. Thus, most data which is uploaded here will be made available as soon as some more data has been uploaded.
The data will be licensed under either CC0 (the same as you uploaded) or as ODbL (in order to keep the data open).
Stay tuned ... creating the download options is one of the next steps. - What new features do you have planned for this application and will they implement any new technologies within OpenShift? The next steps will be a more appropriate Jenkins integration (at
Openshift) and a better integration of the Android App with the
website.
Afterwards the website should be integrated into the mobile app as well.
